James Smoker
Writer and Teacher in Theology and the Arts
Welcome! I am an academic and writer who earned a PhD at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland. My research focused on the poet and theologian Samuel Taylor Coleridge (1772-1834). He had an incredibly interdisciplinary mind, which has led my own work down all sorts of trails: from the theological basis for the imagination, to the meeting of science and religion, to the need of recognizing the inherent relationality of human nature, to the ways one can find God in both the light of faith and shadows of doubt.
On this site you will find more information about my writing and teaching, including my upcoming monograph Approaching the Divine with Samuel Taylor Coleridge. My regular job is as the Registrar at Regent College in Vancouver, Canada, where I also do occasional teaching. I currently live in Vancouver with my wife and three children.
